The first consultation lasts for an hour, during which time details of the presenting complaint are sought as well as a detailed case history; medical history, present medication, lifestyle, diet and social circumstances. A blood pressure check and other examinations are carried out where relevant.

The cost of a first consultation is £35.

Follow up consultations are shorter, usually half an hour, and take place at roughly two weekly intervals. Progress is monitored; the effectiveness of the prescription is reviewed and adjustments may be made if appropriate.
